It was very early when we met at the central station in Cologne at three in the morning. The city was still asleep. However the atmosphere in the group was good. At the airport the check in was quick and easy. However snow and ice everywhere in Düsseldorf. So we had to wait for the deicing of or plane. Then we took off with a little delay. Everything went fine until our final approach into Trondheim – a severe roller-coaster ride with a hard landing.
Arriving in Trondheim, we were warmly welcomed by our Norwegian friends. All of our luggage arrived with us except for Alexander’s suitcase. Therefore his enthusiasm was “limited”. However t-shirts were borrowed quickly and even underwear was to be obtained trouble-free. Finally we managed to cheer him up with little jokes. And Alexander now became the proud owner of brand new work clothes.
Since we had to take care of the cooking we also needed to do some grocery shopping. Oh boy, we were in for a surprise when we saw the unbelievable prices. The surprise didn’t stop. The schoolis an amazing building, very modern withlots of glass, the latest IT-equipment,food for all, a great dining hall and various leisure areas.

For the painters the day started at 8.00 – one hour later we were supposed to be picked up and taken to Charlottenlund. However at first we had to get ready and to have breakfast – 3 pieces of toast, one slice of cheese, a bit butter, one little package of marmalade, one hardboiled egg and a tube of caviar.
At Charlottenlund we were welcomed nicely by the Norwegian students. After a short briefing we started immediately – we had to coat 120 plates in different color tones. Therefore we covered three big tables with paper and placed little pieces of wood on the table – in order to prevent the plates from sticking to the table. Afterwards we sanded the MDF-plates with 180 grit abrasive paper and cleaned them with dust binding cloths. Afterwards we spread the plates (30 cm x 30 cm) on the tables and coated each two times with specific color tones. For the edges we used brushes and for the large surfaces short piled rollers.
During the drying period we were invited for lunch. We had Baguettes, Tacos and a buffet with fresh salads. After lunch we received a briefing concerning the following internship days in the companies. After 14.00 we returned back to the hostel and had leisure time until 18.00. Then we were up for dinner. Mr. Kubo, Mr. Öz and Mr. Wöbbeking served pasta with three kinds of sauces: Gorgonzola, Bolognese and Tomato (for our vegetarians) – of course everything “halal”. Dinner started a bit late but we had fine food and nobody left the dining room hungry.
After cleaning up we met again to debrief the day with the car-painters and to watch a soccer match on TV: Borussia Dortmund vs. Juventus Turin.
After this nerve-wrecking match everybody hit the bed. Some of us were to be picked up at 6.15 in the morning.

This morning the painters had to get up at five clock in the morning. It was very early. After getting ready, the Norwegian trainees picked us up at the hostel and took us to the companies. Once we got there, Katrina introduced us to her boss and her co-workers. Kindly her boss offered us coffee and cocoa. After receiving a work sweater with company logo as a gift, we went to a retirement home at the outskirts of the city. There work was divided among the staff. I was asked to remove the silicone residue from the ground with a spatula. Afterwards the PVC covering had to be cut and pre-installed to be cut to fit.
Around noon, the teachers picked us up to a snowmobile tour. We received a short briefing on the snow mobiles and did several rides. A lot of fun! At the end of the “test-rides” Ingvar and his students served a delicious barbeque picnic. After a warm thank you we were taken to the hostel again. Once there, we briefly met to review the day. Then everybody went to bed quickly.

Due to the fact that Mr. Kubo and Mr. Wöbbeking wanted to see the school in Byasen, we had to start the day earlier. Ingvar picked us up at 8.30 and took us to Byasen. At school we changed to working clothes and met in the workshop. While Ingvar and Ole showed our teachers around, we started working. Very carefully we began to remove the films from the clear coat. In addition some of us prepared the masking for the next painting step, painted and continued writing the manual in German, English and German. Then it was time to have lunch. After lunch removed all masking of the painted plates and placed all plates for a photo.
Due to a snow-storm we had to skip the preplanned boat-trip. Instead our Norwegian friends took us bowling. After some really nice hours at the bowling alley we met the painters again and went for dinner at Egon Tyholttarnet, a restaurant at the Trondheim TV-tower. By 20.00 we returned to the youth hostel and went to bed.

After getting up very early and a quick breakfast we were picked up by Ingvar and Ole. They took us to the car-painting companies. The reception was very warm in my company. After an hour and a half we had a short break with breakfast and coffee. Afterwards we ground off the paintbooth quickly and we were covered with dust. After cleaning we were picked up for a simple but very tasty lunch at 11.45. After returning we quickly covered up the inside of the paint booth. After a third relaxed break at 14.00 we received paint masks and watched Trina spray painting the booth.
Mr. Öz and Ingvar dropped by for a visit. Of course they brought a photo camera – alright – standing still, smiling and not complaining. After our little photo shooting we returned to the youth hostel and relaxed a bit. At 18.00 our painters started cooking the dinner. At 19.00 we dropped by to check as to what these men have done. Joking around with those guys really made time pass by quickly. At 19.30 Ingvar appeared to pick us up to his home. After a short drive we arrived at his really nice home where his wife Karin had prepared a very tasty dinner.
During dinner we had very interesting and very entertaining conversations in English. After dinner we ended the evening in the living room very comfortably with waffles, berries, coffee, beer and vine. Back at the hostel we went to bed with a full stomach and a big smile on the face.

For the most of us this short night ended at 10.00 in the morning after having a good night sleep. Heads were aching and mood wasn’t even close to perfect. Some of us went for breakfast or took a shower, others returned to bed to sleep some more hours. Saturday was supposed to be the day at fully at our avail. We spent most of the afternoon and early evening in bed or on the couch until the girls return from their trip late. All males badly expected them to return to the hostel since it was the girls being responsible for preparing dinner. They started cooking by 20.00 – fish fingers with veggies and mashed potatoes.

Sunday, 01.03.15, Fabia
Everybody was allowed to sleep in except for Mr. Öz. Ingvar picked him up at 6.45 to take him to the airport. All painters, who had missed the snow mobile tour on Wednesday, were picked up by Rune at 10.00 for a snow mobile ride close to the Swedish border. Afterwards they even got to shoot clay pigeons. The rest of the group went for a walk through the city with Mr. Kubo. We started out at the fort and ended up at the pier down at the harbor front. There we had a nice coffee and a piece of tasty cake. Back at the hostel we needed to get warm again first because it had been very windy and cold outside.
In the evening the guys cooked a three-course menu for the entire group: baguette with tuna-paste, filled bell-pepper with ground beef pasta or rice and a special dessert “Mousse à la Norway”. It was a very tasty meal and everybody was stuffed. After cleaning the tables, everybody went to bed since it already had turned late. Everybody had to get up early in the morning.

Monday, 02.03.15, Alexander
After being picked up at 9.00 we – the painters – went to Charlottenlund to continue the work on the plates. Time passed by quickly and we soon had lunch. After lunch we were up for bowling and karting. At 13.30 the first five started their first laps. We had so much fun that we signed up for more laps immediately. Time just flew by and it was time to return to the hostel again and to hang out a bit.
Now it is getting really busy in the kitchen and it is smelling so good. I am really hungry and looking forward to the dinner together with the car-painters. While I am writing my part of the diary others are laying the tables around me. Time to eat.
Enjoy!

Today it was time to say „Fare well“. We all had to get up very early because the bus picked us up at 6.30 in the morning. After cleaning out all the rooms, placing all suitcases in the bus we took off to the airport. Since time was a bit short we needed to go through security immediately after checking in. Some of us were in for a surprise because they had accidentally packed items into their carry-on luggage that didn’t pass security. So they had to say good-bye to their beloved penknife, perfume or shaving cream. A small turbo-prop plane took us to Copenhagen with a short stop-over close to Oslo. In the flight we were served a snack – toast with ham and cheese as every morning for the last 10 days ….
In Copenhagen some of us urgently needed some real food – no problem having three hours lay-over. Fortunately our flight to Düsseldorf was not cancelled since SAS had been on strike the previous days. Lucky us all our luggage was on that final fight as well.
This trip truly has been a life time experience.

01.12.-10.12.2014 Second project-meeting in Cologne
From December, 1st until December, 10th we had the second meeting for our COMENIUS-Project VOCTRAIN in Cologne. This was the first project meeting with all students and actual project work.

The entire "crew" in Cologne

Monday 02.12.14
The flight from Trondheim to Köln went according to plan and we arrived Köln/Bonn airport 10:40. Tom Rathmann met us on the airport, taking us to the Youth Hostel Köln-Deutz by train. Our students got two 3-person room and one 6-person room. The rest of the day was spent to recover from the flight before we met at Heumarkt for a nice homecoming dinner together with our German friends.

Tuesday 03.12.14
We met the German students at Richard-Riemerschmid Berufskolleg in the afternoon. At lunch hour we were planning and organizing the exchange. After lunch we started to take fotos of the students for parts of the project work. According to the agenda we planned to work on the project assignment at Spies-Hecker training center in Cologne the following Tuesday and at Byåsen Upper Secondary School later on in the project.
Additionally we planned the placement of the students in the car-painting companies - the students were distributed among five different companies:
One Ford dealership, one VW-, Audi-, and Porsche dealership and three different independent firms.
On the trip back to the youth hostel we visited Köln Triangel. That’s a building with a roof view over the whole city. The weather was nice, so it was a nice experience.

Wednesday 04.12.14
After an early breakfast the car painters were driving to the five firms with Tom Rathmann. To one of the firms, the Ford-firm, there was a 45 minutes drive. To the other firms it was only a short tram to the location. These firms were next to each other. We were greatly welcome by the employees and the management.
It was a shame that none of the German paint students who were in the project were not employed by those companies. It would have been an advantage in the beginning of the exchange if the Norwegian students have had an familiar that could give them tasks in the companies.
It was a long day before we got to the youth hostel on the afternoon. It was good we had breakfast and dinner on the youth hostel. The food served was very good.

Thursday 05.12.14
We were up early for breakfast, so there was no problem getting to the firms.
Something that really surprised us was that some of the firms had such small focus on the HMS. There I would say there is a big different compared to Norway. It’s a little strange, because we are subject to the same rules and laws because of the association to the EU. It was sprayed coating/filling in the preparation room that submitted much organic solvent. They were not as good with the use of protection masks.
Out on the evening we went into town. Cologne is famous for their huge Christmas markets. There were a lot of people and a lot of strange things you could buy. It was a magical mood with all the lights in downtown at the Kölner Dom.

Friday 06.12.14
It went better looking in the companies the last day. We have become better acquainted with the staff, who by the way were very nice. We thanked for an educational internship with many experiences we could bring back home to Norway. Ole and Ingvar visited us in the workshops to look how we managed.
Friday evening was spent at the Hostel after a long and hectic week. Our 6-person room was a gathering place during our stay, and we often didn’t go to bed until far into the night.

Saturday 07.12.14
Along with Tom Rathmann we went visit the Essen Motor Show by train. We Norwegians are not accustomed to such events, it was much bigger than we could have dreamed of. There were people everywhere and a lot to see. We split up into smaller groups, because we have had some different interests. Time of departure was up to each individual. An inspiring day for us who have an interest in car. See also a Power Point attached project.

Sunday 08.12.14
Not everyone got up for breakfast this day. At 14:00 pm we were on a very interesting tour in downtown Köln. An English-language tour guide showed us around. We did see excavations from Roman times. See also attached project.

Monday 08.12.14
We looked forward to the visit to the Ford plant. As you know, we have no car production in Norway, so none of us has been in a car factory before. This was an educational day with many impressions. Large dimensions and everything went smoothly! See also attached project.

Tuesday 09.12.14
Today we were at Spies Hecker-training center in Köln, where we started on the project paper. It was a state of the art workshop with more talented instructors. Besides starting the project work on the dye transfer process we took part in a workshop on correct color matching and received a short introduction to their new mixing system "daisy wheel".
The project work started with the preparation of the aluminum plates. Everyone received an aluminum plate that neede to be sanded, primed and painted on. We started to paint the German and Norwegian flag. We will continue with the task at Byåsen Upper Secondary School.
In the evening, we were invited to a farewell dinner. Very good food and a nice atmosphere. We thanked for a very pleasant stay in Köln and we were looking forward for your stay to Trondheim on February.

Wednesday 10.12.14
We departed from Köln airport at 07.40 am, we were all tired and weary. Everyone agreed that there has been an educational and enjoyable experience those 10 days in Köln.
Thank you for joining us and see you soon.
